To use a sref code, add --sref followed by the code number to the end of your Midjourney prompt. You can also combine multiple codes or adjust the style weight for more control over the final result.
Basic Usage
The simplest way to use a sref code is to add it to your prompt:
a beautiful mountain landscape --sref 3102110963
Midjourney will generate the image and apply the style associated with that code. The style affects the overall visual aesthetic — colors, textures, composition style, and mood.
Adjusting Style Weight
By default, the style weight is set to 100. You can control how strongly the sref code influences your image using the --sw parameter:
a beautiful mountain landscape --sref 3102110963 --sw 200
--sw 0to--sw 250is the typical range- Lower values (0-100) = subtle style influence
- Higher values (100-250) = stronger style influence
- Default is
--sw 100if not specified
Using Random Sref Codes
Want to discover new styles? Use the random parameter:
a beautiful mountain landscape --sref random
Midjourney will apply a random style code each time. This is a great way to find unexpected and unique aesthetics. When you find a style you like, check the output — Midjourney displays the actual code used, and you can reuse it later.
Combining Multiple Sref Codes
You can blend multiple styles by adding several sref codes in one prompt:
a beautiful mountain landscape --sref 3102110963 2917381023
When combining codes, you can also assign different weights to each:
a beautiful mountain landscape --sref 3102110963::2 2917381023::1
The ::2 gives the first code twice the influence of the second code (::1).
Tips for Best Results
- Start with a clear subject — A strong prompt subject gives the sref code more to work with
- Preview before committing — Generate a few test images to see how the style looks
- Adjust style weight — If the style is too strong, lower the
--swvalue - Mix and match — Combine codes from different categories for unique blends
- Save your favorites — When you find a code you love, bookmark it
Common Issues
The style looks too subtle: Increase --sw to 200 or higher.
The style is overpowering: Decrease --sw to 50 or lower.
The code doesn’t work: Make sure you’re using the correct format (--sref followed by the number). Sref codes work in Midjourney v6 and later.
I want the exact same result: Sref codes apply the style, but each generation is still unique. For maximum consistency, use the same prompt, sref code, and seed number (--seed).
